The ferry became a significant part of my weekly routine as I travelled back and forth from Brooklyn to “the forgotten borough” to stay at the home of my partner at the time. I felt that I witnessed an unseen aspect of many New Yorkers daily lives, hustling onto the boat at rush hour and killing twenty minutes as the iconic scenery of the harbour passes by out the window. Long waits in the terminal and grand views of the cityscape left a strong impression on me and my personal affection for NYC and Staten in particular. This is a short series on that commute.
